Another Year Celebrating Dolls

During our daily 5:00 p.m. telephone conversation yesterday, I reminded my parents today is National Doll Day. My sweet daddy (86 years young) is always looking for holidays to celebrate. For years, he paid his dues in the work force. So, for him, he spends any and all holidays relaxing. Holidays give him a “valid” reason to do what he usually does anyway! When it’s a big holiday, he always knows it is coming up, and he will say, “I’m going to rest up before” then will “rest during the holiday” and then must “rest to get over all the celebrating.”

He probably thought the “next” holiday wasn’t until Labor Day because he became very excited whenever I reminded him about today. I could hear the excitement in his voice. It was if he then had a special plan, a reason/excuse, not to do anything today except exactly what he wanted – relax!

He’s such a hoot.

I know sometime today we’ll talk about the time we went to the Houston area, toured the Battleship of Texas, and my mother took this picture:

My loving father always knew how much my dolls meant to me. He treated them with respect and respected my feelings toward my dolls. He knows how much I enjoy having dolls in my life … still. And, he’s especially happy I created National Doll Day – so he would have a holiday between Independence Day and Labor Day! ;)

Thank you, Daddy.
All my love,
